It Is Not a Traditional Box Spring
Spindle describes its foundation as a solid structural wood frame with slats. It resembles a box spring externally but is designed to provide the rigid support an all-latex mattress needs.

The current foundation uses a knock-down design assembled at home without tools, kiln-dried Canadian spruce-pine-fir lumber, a slat kit, center support and a fitted quilted cover.

Spindle currently lists approximately 2.75-inch slat spacing and additional center bracing. Product dimensions and materials should still be verified for the size you order.
Return Terms Differ from the Mattress
The current foundation page states that unopened foundations may be returned within 30 days, while opened foundations are not accepted for sanitary reasons. That is a different return proposition from the mattress trial.
Who Needs It
If your existing frame was designed around a traditional box spring, a rigid foundation can provide the structural interface required by the mattress. If you already have a compliant platform or adjustable base, a separate foundation may be unnecessary.
Assembly and Room Access
